The thing I don't get is how a gearbox can have no fault codes but still behave strangely, because that seems to be what's happening with mine and it's incredibly frustrating when every garage just shrugs and tells me to come back when it breaks. Is there a way to tell whether a problem is mechanical or electronic, or does everything just blend together into one big expensive mystery? And how do the different types of gearboxes differ in terms of how they fail and what they cost to fix, because if I know what I'm likely dealing with I can at least budget for it rather than being blindsided. If anyone can point me towards something genuinely useful that explains this stuff without drowning me in acronyms, I'd be really grateful, because I'd much rather go into this understanding the basics than feeling like I'm at the mercy of whoever's quoting me.
